Issue



When attempting to catalog a GRT (Granular Recovery Technology) enabled AVVI backup and Use storage media-based catalogs has been disabled, the catalog operation fails with the error below.


Error



Error from the Job Log:


Final error: 0xe0009741 - Failed to mount one or more virtual disk images. Restores that use Granular Recovery Technology may not be available from this backup set.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Error from the Backup Exec debug log:
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: TicketResolveHostName: Resolving IP address for hostname [ESX HOST or vCENTER].
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: TicketResolveHostName: Resolved to [IP ADDRESS].
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Log: VixDiskLibVim: TicketLogin
[fsys\shared]        - VDDK-Warn: VixDiskLibVim: Login failure - VixError = 0.
[mounter]            - VMDKRemoteImage::Open()  Could not open the disk '[DATSTORE] VIRTUAL MACHINE/VIRTUAL MACHINE.vmdk' Error Text: 'Insufficient permissions in host operating system' Error: '3014'


Cause



This issue is occurs when Use storage media-based catalogs has been unchecked in Tools - Options - Catalog.


Solution



This issue has been resolved in Backup Exec 2012 and above.  See the Related Articles Section below for more information on how to obtain the more recent builds of the Backup Exec Product.

 

Workaround for Backup Exec 2010: Enabled Use storage media-based catalogs in Tools - Options - Catalog and retry the catalog operation.
