Issue

Vxassist fails with the message:

VxVM vxvoladm ERROR V-193-49872-17 Veritas Intelligent Storage Provisioning is not reachable on the specified host.

Error

VxVM vxvoladm ERROR V-193-49872-17 Veritas Intelligent Storage Provisioning is not reachable on the specified host.

Environment

Customer does not use or intend to use the ISP function of the product.

Cause

The Allocator has been removed as of VxVM  5.1

This error may be removed by disabling the allocator function.

This is not advisable if the functionality of volume tags and storage pools are being used.

Check the disk group for the properties mentioned below:

The disk group may contain tagmeta and dg tags.

vxdg –g <dgname> listmeta
vxdg –g <dgname> listtag

The above commands should return empty output. In such cases ISP won’t be invoked.

If there are volume tags/storage pools present in the disk group, then the disk
group should not contain any tagmeta and tags.

To check whether volume tags are present or not, check with the following command:

vxassist –g <dgname> listtag

To check whether storage pools are present or not,  check with the following command:

vxprint –g <dgname> | grep –w st

Solution

Disable Allocator

To avoid any issues with allocator, it can be disabled by following the below procedure:

cd /opt/VRTS/alloc/providers

mv allocator_prov.so allocator_prov.so.original

/opt/VRTSobc/pal33/bin/vxpalctlr –a StorageAgent –c stop
/opt/VRTSobc/pal33/bin/vxpalctlr –a StorageAgent –c start
