When performing a Backup of a virtual machine that has DFSR enabled using either VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI) or Hyper-V agent, the backup may complete with the exception "Directory 'DfsRoots\Namespace\DFS-Share' does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT)."

Problem
When performing an Vmware or Hyper-V Agent backup of a Windows virtual machine with DFSR enabled, the backup may complete with the exceptions Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory.

V-79-57344-38724 - Directory 'DfsRoots\Namespace1\DFS-Share' does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory.
V-79-57344-38724 - Directory 'C\DFS Root SharedDrive\' does not support Granular Recovery Technology (GRT). Granular restores cannot be performed for items in this directory.
Solution
Backup Exec is working as designed with the current supported versions of the product which are experiencing this issue. Perform one of the following solutions listed below to prevent the exceptions showing in the Backup Exec job log.
Solutions:
1. Disable File level GRT in the backup of the virtual machine with DFSR
OR
2. If file level restores are needed for DFSR, backup the affected virtual machine as if it were a physical machine. Perform a (RAWS) Backup Exec Remote Agent Backup.
