Issue

A lot of "Abort message" error messages occur in the mail audit logs after the Invalid Recipients feature is enabled on the Symantec Messaging Gateway.

If one or more recipients' emails are incorrect, the whole email will be dropped or rejected as this is the action configured in Invalid Recipients setting.

Error

"Abort Message" is seen in the mail audit logs.

Cause

This occurs because if one or more recipients' emails are incorrect, SMG won't trip the incorrect recipient(s) and can only drop or reject the whole email by following the security policy as it is configured. The correct or valid recipients cannot receive this email either as it has already been acted on before the mail was bifurcated

This is working by design for SMG products.

Solution

It is possible to disable the Invalid Recipients feature to avoid this issue with the following steps:

1. Log into SMG console as admin

2. Click Protocols - Invalid Recipients

3. Click on Accept all recipients check box.
