Issue

ItemVersionData Table growing very large with Download, Execute, Applicability, and Detection Check statuses from Software Management

Environment

Software Management 7.0 SP2 MR1

Cause

This is a known issue.

The detection checks (and other steps) were designed to send updates to the server so administrators would know what was going on with SWD policies on client.  However, they were also adding entries to ItemVersionData erroneously.  Unfortunately, if one of these were to fail, events would be sent over and over to the server, creating essentially a fire-storm of updates to this table.  Add this to failing on several clients and the table growth would be tremendous.

Solution

There are multiple issues related to this, most of which were addressed in 7.1 MP1.  There is still an outstanding Detection check issue slated for 7.1 SP2.

To purge/clean the tables, please refer to TECH46681.
