Problem
Hotfix for Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector (EVDC) 9.0 Service Pack 2 cannot connect to the Enterprise Vault Directory Service.
Environment
- Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector installed, configured and run to collect data
- Enterprise Vault for Microsoft Exchange (or Lotus Domino) installed afterward.
- Microsoft Windows 2003 or greater domain with NTLMv2 authentication enabled.
Cause
Enterprise Vault (EV) Discovery Collector (DC) versions 9.0 through 9.0 Service Pack 2 only work with Microsoft's NTLM v1 authentication.
Solution
The solution is to apply the fix using the normal Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector (EVDC) update process. For EVDC 9.0 or 9.0 SP1 installation, upgrade to EVDC 9.0 SP2, then follow the steps below.
For EVDC installations with Internet connectivity
1) Login to the appliance using the following credentials:
--- UserID: util
--- Password: util
2) Select the first choice of
Update Software
3) Again, select the first choice of
Full Upgrade
4) Select the second option of
New Repository
5) Again, select the second option of
Remote Source
6) Select the first option of
HTTP
7) Type the link
http://discoverycollector.symantec.com/EVDC_9_0_2/
8) Run the upgrade process.
The file that will be downloaded from the URL by the steps above to update the installation is named 'COLTER_EVAULT2-287'.
For EVDC installations without Internet connectivity
1) Download the attached hotfix file. This file is a compressed (.zip) file that contains a folder and an ISO and MD5 file within the folder as follows:
- Folder: EV-DC 9.0.2 Hotfix Etrack 2584990 - NTLM v2 Authentication
- File: Symantec_Enterprise_Vault_Discovery_Collector_9_0_2_286_Update.iso
- File: Symantec_Enterpilse_Vault_Discovery_Collector_9_0_2_286_Update.iso.md5 (Note: this file can be used to verify the validity of the ISO file.)
2) Burn the ISO file onto a DVD.
3) Use either of the following 2 methods to complete the installation of the hotfix:
Using the DVD upgrade method
1. Mount the ISO in a Discovery Collector-supported version of VMware Server or vSphere.
See the Discovery Collector Installation and Planning Guide for details of the supported versions.
2. Locate the CDROM icon, and then click CD/DVD ROM Drive 1.
3. Choose the option to Connect to ISO on local disk.
4. Log on to the Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector Appliance Console as root.
Note: A password is required to undertake these workarounds. To obtain this password, contact Symantec Technical Support and open a support case, quoting your Support ID and Knowledge Base article TECH168578. An agent will provide you with the required password.
5. Type the following series of commands in the terminal:
-
mkdir /mnt/cd -
mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cd -
rpm --nodeps -Uvh /mnt/cd/storediqutil-5.0.3.0.EVAULT2-59.i386.rpm -
su - util
6. Choose the following series of options:
- 1. Update Software
- 1. Full Upgrade
- 2. New Repository
- 1. Local Source
- 1. Upgrade from DVD
7. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Using the ISO file upgrade method
1. Using SSH as the root account, copy the ISO file to the /tmp directory of the appliance.
3. Type the following series of commands in the terminal:
-
mkdir /mnt/dvd -
mount -o loop /tmp/Symantec_Enterprise_Vault_Discovery_Collector_9_0_2_286_Update.iso /mnt/dvd -
cd /usr/local/storediq -
python /usr/local/storediq/bin/util/siqupdate.pyc --setcustrepos file:///mnt/dvd
4. Follow the onscreen instructions.
Implementation of the above steps will allow NTLMv2 authentication between Enterprise Vault and Discovery Collector installations.
