Problem
After updating an environment configured to backup VMware systems with Backup Exec 2010 R3 with Hotfixes 159965 and 164220, all of the VMware backups failed reporting the error message provide below.
An analysis using debug logging ( as per related article ) showed that the following security message was being reported:
vddkCreateVMWareSnapshot() Failure preparing VM for access: server '<server>' VM 'moRef=<snapshot>'. Error Text: 'Insufficient permissions in the host operating system' Error: '3014'
LP_ENV::createVMWareSnapshot(): failed, result = 0X200095BF
The second error listed below might be seen if your security has been customized beyond the current documented Backup Exec Requirements.
Error
0x200095bf - A failure occured while locking the virtual machine in place for backup/restore operations
OR
0x200095c0 - A failure occured while unlocking the virtual machine after backup/restore operations
Solution
This issue has been resolved in Backup Exec 2010 R3 Service Pack 2
