A communications failure occurs when attempting to backup remote Windows 2008 Servers

Issue



When attempting to backup a remote file server running windows 2008 the following error occurs:

Final error: 0xe000fe30 - A communications failure has occurred.
Final error category: Server Errors

Cause



The server has multiple NICs (Network Interface Cards) installed and is set up as a teamed connection.  Windows 2008 attempts to use IPv6 by default.

 


Solution



  1. In Backup Exec go to the job properties.
  2. Click network and security.
  3. In the drop down for network interface select either 1 of the NICs.
  4. In the drop down box for protocol select  IPv4, then re-run the backup job.
