When trying to set a SSL certificate within SIM (Symantec Installation Manager) during initial installation of SMP (Symantec Management Platform) 7.1, the following error occurred:
Steps to duplicate:
1. Clone a VM which you had already run SIM up to but not including the "Install" step.
2. Run SIM again on the cloned VM and on the page where you enter the NSService and set IIS settings. I receive the mentioned error.
Unable to set the certificate. A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070520)

This is not a supported scenario. We have seen this if you already have a certificate assigned in IIS.
1. Delete the originally assigned certificate.
2. Remove the https binding for the old certificate and then create a new https binding and assign it to the the new certificate.
a) Under IIS Manager>Sites>Default Web site. In the right pane (called Actions), there is a 'Bindings...' link. Click on it.
b) Site Bindings window will open. Find 'Https' under Type column and click Remove.
c) Click on Add and add a new Https type and associate it to the new SSL Certificate.
Note: If you just try to assign the original https binding to the new certificate you will get this error as well.
