Extending a dynamic volume using VERITAS Volume Manager (tm) for Windows NT

Solution



To extend a dynamic volume in Volume Manager for Windows NT follow these steps:

1. Ensure there are no open handles on the volume to be extended
2. Right click on the volume to be extended.  Select "Extend Volume" from the menu. A message will appear indicating that after the volume has been extended, CHKDSK will be launched. Click OK.  (Figure 1)

3. Click Next on the following screen
4. Select "Express" or "Custom" method and click Next. If Express was selected, enter the size by which the volume is to be extended and then click Next. If Custom was selected, enter the size by which the volume is to be extended and choose which disks to extend the volume. (Figure 2). Click Next to proceed

5. If Custom was selected, the Verify Disk screen will appear.  Ensure the information is correct and click Next. If the information is not correct,  click on the Modify button.  Modify the configuration as desired and click OK
6. Click Finish on the next screen.  An invalid corrupt file message (Figure 3) will display. It is safe to ignore this message, simply click OK

The volume will display Healthy, Formatting: (XX%).  The volume will be accessible when the formatting process is completed.
