Issue

You have connected the EMC Event Enabler (ex CAVA agent) 64bit to the Scan Engine server but the number of Total Requests and Total files scanned in the Home tab is 0. Also no scan requests are logged in the Scan Engine logs.

Environment

  • EMC Celerra Networked Addressed Storage
  • 64bit EMC Event Enabler (ex CAVA agent) version 5.0.8.2 or earlier
  • Symantec Scan Engine 5.x or Symantec Protection Engine 7.0.x

Cause

At the time of writing this technote, the most current version of EMC Event Enabler (ex CAVA agent) 64bit is 5.0.8.2 and it still doesn't use the 64bit libraries available since Symantec Scan Engine 5.2.11 and Symantec Protection Engine 7.0.x.

Solution

Install EMC Event Enabler 32bit, and make sure that:

  • Symantec Scan Engine or Symantec Protection Engine is configured to use the ICAP protocol and listens on loopback (127.0.0.1).
  • The LogOn credentials used to launch the Symantec Scan Engine or Symantec Protection Engine service has administrative rights on the EMC NAS.
  • The LogOn credentials used to launch the EMC Event Enabler (ex CAVA agent) has administrative rights on the EMC NAS.
  • The storage Administrator has configured the relevant configuration files on the EMC storage (for instance Viruschecker.conf and Cepp.conf) as per EMC recommendations.

Releases of EMC Event Enabler newer than 5.0.8.2 may include support for the Symantec 64bit libraries. Please check with EMC.
