Restore of SharePoint or SQL Server fails when the SQL Server version is different than the one used when the backup job was performed.

 

 

 


Error



0xe0008492 - Database Query Failure

V-79-65323-3168 - An error ocurred on a query to database msdb.

V-79-65323-3169 - The backup of the system database on the device XX_XXXxxxx_XXXX cannot be restored because it was created by a different version of the server (X.XX.XXXX) than this server (X.XX.XXXX)

Note: X.XX.XXXX stands for SQL Server Version

Example: 9.00.5000 (SQL Server 2005 SP4)
 

Cause



 When restoring a backup of a system database (master, model, or msdb) on a server build that is different from the build on which the backup was originally performed causes the restore job to fail, with the error message mentioned.


 


Solution



Per Microsoft's support guidelines, a restore from a backup of a system database (master, model, or msdb) on a server build that is different from the build on which the backup was originally performed.
