Problem



If you need to back up Enterprise Vault (EV), use the following links for more information on data locations, SQL databases, backup modes and commands, backup tools, and server maintenance plans.

The following Enterprise Vault data locations and SQL databases must be backed up regularly.

• Vault store partitions
• Index Locations
• SQL databases
o Vault store databases
o Fingerprint databases
o EnterpriseVaultDirectory
o EnterpriseVaultMonitoring
o EnterpriseVaultAudit, if enabled.
o FSA Reporting database, if using FSA Reporting.

 


Solution



Please select from one of the options below to back up Enterprise Vault SQL databases.  

Using a SQL Backup Tool
If using a SQL backup tool (i.e. Backup Exec or NetBackup) select one of the following options to place EV into backup mode.


Configuring backup mode using PowerShell cmdlets in backup scripts Enterprise Vault includes a PowerShell script called Transform-Backup.ps1, which is used to generate PowerShell backup mode commands for the environment. Enterprise Vault’s backup mode PowerShell cmdlets are designed to be used in the backup scripts to control backup mode.

Configuring backup mode with the Vault Admin Console Set backup mode on vault stores and index locations in the Enterprise Vault administration console. When the backup is complete, use the administration console to clear backup mode.

Using a SQL Server Maintenance Plan
The following instructions are for Enterprise Vault environments where there is not backup software that will utilize a 'SQL Agent' to perform a logical backup of the SQL Databases.

Note:
If using a storage device that does not support the use of an archive bit, or backup software that does not reset the archive bit, Enterprise Vault can alternatively check for a trigger file (ignorearchivebittrigger.txt or partitionsecurednotification.xml) to determine whether the files in a vault store partition have been secured.
