Problem
Backup of DFSR fails with the error "0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status."
The application event log shows the error as below : -
Application error, Event id: 1000
Faulting application name: DFSRs.exe, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bc447
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\DFSRs.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
Error
"0xe000fed1 - A failure occurred querying the Writer status."
And
Backup- \\<Server Name>\Shadow?Copy?Components
Writer Name: Distributed File System Replication, Writer ID: {2707761B-2324-473D-88EB-EB007A359533}, Last error: 0x80042319, State: 0009.
A failure occurred querying the Writer status.
Directory \\<Server Name>\Shadow?Copy?Components\User?Data\Distributed File System Replication\DfsrReplicatedFolders\Sage\ was not found, or could not be accessed.

Environment
Backup Exec 2010 R3
Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition (No Service Packs)
Cause
This issue occurs because the DFS Replication service performs asynchronous local I/O requests incorrectly when the service is under stress.
