Control Host add on installation fails with Password Generation Error

Problem
When installing the Control Host add on, it is able to be uploaded successfully, but fails to install. The message shown under Install Solution -> Status -> Host Details shows an error "Password Generation Error"
The package is VRTSsfmch-4.0.1097.0
Error
Password Generation Error - Check mhrun.log for details
From the mhrun.log for the Control Host / Managed Host:
"C:\ProgramData\Symantec\VRTSsfmh\spool\addons\store\VRTSsfmch-4.0.1097.0\setup.pl" failed

Cause
This issue manifests when the encrypted string contains a NULL
Solution
This issue has been identified as an issue in the products listed here. A publicly availble hotfix is located on SORT:

This issue is also addressed in VOM 4.1.
