Symantec Scan Engine 5.2.x install fails, reporting the Java Runtime Environment could not be found

Problem
When attempting to install Symantec Scan Engine 5.2.x on a 64-bit Operating System, the following install error is reported, "The Java Runtime Environment could not be found. Please install the java runtime, 1.5 family, preferably build 13 or higher".

Cause
In this situation, when installing Symantec Scan Engine 5.2 on a 64-bit Operating System, Scan Engine is expecting a 32-bit version of the Java Runtime Environment. Typically on a 64-bit OS just the 64-bit version of the Java JRE is installed.
Solution
Please install the 32-bit version of Java 1.5 or Java 6. Then attempt to re-install Symantec Scan Engine 5.2. Please note that Scan Engine ships with a 32-bit version of Java 6 and 1.5 in the Tools folder.
