Problem
LiveUpdate is not able to download the Virus Definition Updates. LiveUpdate shows a return code of LU1845.
Error
The callback failed with a return code of 0x80004005.
The PreSession callback for product SESC Virus Definitions Win32 v11 completed with a result of 0x80004005
LiveUpdate aborted product SESC Virus Definitions Win32 v11 for the following reason(error code 1845), This product was not updated due to a processing error.
Environment
Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 Server, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008.
Symantec AntiVirus 10.x
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.x
Cause
A firewall or proxy server is filtering the content updates. Because of this, the data stream is broken / corrupted.
Solution
Set exclusions in the firewall and/or proxy for the Symantec LiveUpdate Server domains.
- liveupdate.symantecliveupdate.com (http)
- liveupdate.symantec.com (http)
- update.symantec.com (ftp)
The above domains are listed in the Settings.Liveupdate file, under the HOSTS section.
