Issue

PGP Whole Disk Encryption process hangs at 0% and does not continue. Even after clicking the Resume button in PGP Desktop, the encryption process does not resume.

Solution

Make sure that if you are using a laptop, that you have the laptop using A/C power and not on battery power.

Should this not resolve the issue then do the following for your operating system:

Windows XP:

1.Click Start > Run  and type cmd and click OK. This opens a Command Line window.

2. Navigate to the PGP Desktop folder in C:\Program Files\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop

3. Run the following command: pgpwde --resume -d 0 --passphrase "your passphrase"

Note: Make sure to use the correct drive number. If you are not sure about the drive number then run the pgpwde --enum command. This will display the drives on your PC or laptop.

Windows 7:

1. Click Start and type in cmd and Start search field and then click OK. This opens a Command Line window.

2. Navigate to the PGP Desktop folder in C:\Program Files\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop (Windows 7 32-bit)

or  C:\Program Files <x86>\PGP Corporation\PGP Desktop (Windows 7 64-bit).

3. Run the following command: pgpwde --resume -d 0 --passphrase "your passphrase"

See the following article for best practices for PGP Whole Disk Encryption www.symantec.com/docs/TECH149543

Should this not resolve the issue or the encryption keeps stopping, please decrypt the drive and install the latest version of PGP Desktop and try again.

You can download PGP Desktop from https://fileconnect.symantec.com/LangSelection.jsp

Should you have issues downloading PGP, or the latest version is not available for download, then please contact the customer care department.
