These requirements apply to the enterprise version of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1. For the Small Business Edition, see System requirements for Symantec Endpoint Protection Small Business Edition 12.1 Release Update 1 (RU1).

Unless otherwise specified, all updates, editions, and Service Packs (SPs) for a listed Windows version are supported, e.g. Windows 7 = Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate editions, all SPs. As Microsoft releases new Service Packs for Windows, these requirements may need to be re-evaluated--the newest Service Pack may require an updated version of the Symantec product.

Changes in this release

Support for additional operating systems and virtual platforms

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager supports Windows Small Business Server 2003.

The Symantec Endpoint Protection client now supports the following operating systems:

• Windows Small Business Server 2003
• Windows Embedded Standard 7
• Windows XP Embedded SP3 and later

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Macintosh client and the Symantec Network Access Control On-Demand client for Macintosh now support Mac OS 10.7 Lion.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and the Symantec Endpoint Protection client now support the following additional virtual platforms:

• VMware Workstation 7.0 or later
• VMware ESXi 4.0.x or later
• VMware ESX 4.0.x or later
• VMware Server 2.0.1
• Citrix XenServer 5.1 or later

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager now supports the following Web browsers:

• Internet Explorer 7.0, 8.0, 9.0
• Firefox 3.6, 4.0

The Symantec AntiVirus for Linux client now supports the following additional operating systems:

• RedHat Enterprise Linux 6.x
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Enterprise Desktop 11.x (includes support for OES 2)
• Ubuntu 11.x
• Fedora 15.x
• Debian 6.x
   

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager system requirements

Processor

• 32-bit processor: 1-GHz Intel Pentium III or equivalent minimum (Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent recommended)
• 64-bit processor: 2-GHz Pentium 4 with x86-64 support or equivalent minimum

Note: Intel Itanium IA-64 and PowerPC processors are not supported.

• 32-bit operating system: 1 GB of RAM or higher if required by the operating system

Database

The Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager includes an embedded database, and this is the only choice in Small Business Edition. In the enterprise version, you may use the embedded database or one of the following versions of Microsoft SQL Server:

• SQL Server 2000, SP4 or later
• SQL Server 2005, SP2 or later
• SQL Server 2008 all Service Packs
• SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1

Note: If you install the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and the SQL database on the same computer, a minimum of 4 GB of RAM is recommended.
