What is the trace database used for and what is the function of the repository when configuring BV Control SQL for auditing.

Solution

When configuring BV Control for SQL Server for auditing feature , you first need to create a central repository - This repository is used to hold all audited data from all targets that you might configure for auditing.

The target server that you setup for auditing , requires that you create a target database on that server itself , this target server is used to hold all audited data from that server depending on the events ( DDL or DML ) events that you have selected while configuring the target host in BVC- SQL Server.

This data that is in the trace database is periodically transferred to the SQL repository which is queried in BVC- SQL using the auditing data source. So basically we are reading the SQL repository for gather our data for reports on audits.
