- SFW 5.1.20000.87

Cause

This may be as a result of a failed or corrupt installation or upgrade leaving remnants of files and causing Vxio.sys to be partially functional.

Troubleshooting/Review:

1. Review the Storage agent in VEA for any failed providers

2. Review the Setup.api.dev logs and confirm if there are any errors around  the time of the issue

3. If there are Errors relating to Vxio.sys, confirm if there are any flags stating that the system cannot find the file specified (Error shown below)

4. Confirm in device manager  if there are any Other device listed with unknown device (or devices related to vxio.sys) and remove them.

5. Confirm in device manager if the Storage Foundation for Windows 5.1  component is missing in system components or if it shows multiple installs of the same component.

6. Remove all Storage Foundation for Windows 5.1  components in device manager with yellow exclamation marks

Solution

1. Reinstalling Vxio may not immediately resolve this issue and does not have to be done however if vxio is reinstalled, Immediately after a reboot the following issue may or may not occur. You will notice 2 of the same components listed in system components in Device Manager.

2. Remove/uninstall the VERITAS Storage Foundation 5.1 for Windows componentd with the yellow exclamation error.

3. Immediately after removing the component, Copy C:\windows\system32\drivers\vxio.sys into the the c:\windows\inf directory.

4. If this is Storage foundation for Windows 5.1 SP2 CP5 confirm that the version Vxio.sys is  5.1 20030.87.

5. Reboot the system

6. Confirm in device manager if the Storage Foundation for Windows 5.1  component is missing in system components or if it shows multiple installs of the same component.
7. Reboot again if necessary

8. Confirm that the shadow copy now works
