Environment

Inventory Solution 7.1 SP1 / Inventory Solution 7.1 SP2

Cause

This is a known defect.

Solution

A hotfix exists that will resolve this issue after installation of Inventory Solution 7.1 SP2. Please contact Symantec Support to obtain these files.

1. Make sure you have a current backup of your system.
2. Obtain and extract the HW_OS_Summary.zip file from support, then copy the point fix folder “HW_OS_Summary” to the NS machine.
3. Launch the Altiris log viewer application.
4. Using a command prompt, launch AeXConfig.exe from the the “C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\bin” location to configure the system using the Inventory_hotfix.config file as a reference. The syntax to use is:

"C:\Program Files\Altiris\Notification Server\bin\AeXConfig.exe" /configure "$\PointFix_hotfix\Inventory_hotfix.config"
Replace the "$" with the path to the previously extracted folder. Include the " " marks as shown above.

5.Refer to the Altiris log viewer. Monitor the log for a message similar to: “2/2 items imported successfully”.
6.Backup the inventory_items.config file from the following location: C:\Program Files\Altiris\Inventory\Config
7.Copy/overwrite the Inventory_Items.config file from C:\Program Files\Altiris\Inventory\Config folder with the Inventory_Items.config file located in your HW_OS_Summary folder.

Note: The HW_OS_Summary.config file was referenced internally by the Inventory_hotfix.config file during the configuration process. No further action needs to be taken with this file.

You may now archive and remove the HW_OS_Summary folder and it's files from you system, if you wish.
