An GRT (Granular Recovery Technology) restore job from tape fails. The hard disk staging area is set to an NTFS volume. However, the restore job error message indicates that the volume is not NTFS.

Edit the properties for the restore job, and under Settings, click Advanced. Change the path, and then submit the job again. This is required when you use Backup Exec Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) to restore individual items from a backup-to-disk folder that is not on an NTFS volume.

Solution



The staging area must be to a local NTFS volume.

In Backup Exec on the media server, navigate to Tools | Options | Restore |GRT section.  Enter the path for the staging area.

 

On the Exchange Server, click Start -> Run and type "regedit", then click OK

 

 Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | SOFTWARE | Symantec | Backup Exec For Windows | Backup Exec | Engine | Exchange

 

  • Right click and add a new String Value, "OnHostTemp".(without the quotes )
  • Right click and set the value of OnHostTemp to the staging area path. (e.g C:\Temp)
  • Restart the Backup Exec services on the Exchange server and the media server.
