Issue

Note: This issue is not observed on Logical Domains.

The installation of Veritas Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC (SF Oracle RAC) 5.1 SP1 on Oracle T-series physical servers may fail due to a failure in module unload operations.  As SF Oracle RAC 5.1 SP1 includes the VRTSdbac patch 145451-01, the patch installation also fails.

Error

The installation fails with the following error messages in the patch log file:

can't unload the module: Device busy

patchadd:preinstall: vcsmm modunload failed. vcsmm (271) is still loaded

The prepatch script exited with return code 1.

Patchadd is terminating.

Cause

Issues with the SCSI driver cause the module unload operations to fail. This in turn causes the SF Oracle RAC 5.1 SP1 and VRTSdbac patch installations to fail.

Solution

Perform the following steps on each node in the cluster:

(1) Install the Oracle patch 148098-01. Visit the Oracle website https://support.oracle.com to download the patch.

(2) Restart the nodes.

# /usr/sbin/shutdown -y -i6 -g0

(3) Reapply the VRTSdbac patch 145451-01.

(4) Start SF Oracle RAC.

# /opt/VRTS/install/installsfrac -start node1 node2

SF Oracle RAC 5.1 SP1 and the VRTSdbac patch 145451-01 is installed successfully.
