Environment

Lotus Notes 8.5.2 or 8.5.3

Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client 12.1

Cause

The notes.ini file does not contain anything related to NLNVP or it contains only an old reference to this add on.

Solution

This issue is resolved by improvements contained in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 RU2.  Please upgrade affected computers to the latest available release of SEP.

Symantec Endpoint Protection and Lotus Notes both crash with Lotus Notes plug-in installed (enabled or disabled)
Fix ID: 2665371
Symptom: The Lotus Notes Email Auto-Protect plug-in crashes, which cause Symantec Endpoint Protection and Lotus Notes to crash. These crashes occur even if you disable the plug-in.
Solution: Added code to better clean up after previous installs, and to update the notes.ini file before nlnvp.dll is launched.

If an upgrade is not immediately possible, the following workaround will also succeed:

Open notes.ini with a text editor and add the line ExtMgr_Addins=NLNVP after the line  NAMES=names.nsf

Also delete line NSF_HOOKS= NLNVP.DLL if present.

Or if ExtMgr_Addins= is empty, make sure it is complete as stated above.
