Can PGP Web Messenger be used with the PGP Support Package for BlackBerry?

Solution

Symantec PGP Universal Server has a feature called Out Of Mail Stream (OOMS).  This is available such that if PGP Desktop Email is used in conjunction with a PGP Universal Server that is not in the mail stream, then PGP Web Messenger messages can still be sent.

An example of OOMS is the following outbound mail stream path:

User sends email >> Exchange Server >> MTA >> Internet

Although the above mail configuration does not have Symantec PGP Universal Server in the mail stream, the PGP Desktop client initiates a TLS connection to Symantec PGP Universal Server and encapsulates the message inside this TLS communication.  Once the Symantec PGP Universal Server receives the message in its entirety, it will send the PGP Web Messenger message to the external user directly, thus bypassing the Exchange Server in this example.

The PGP Support Package for BlackBerry does not include this capability and therefore, will not be able to send an OOMS PGP Web Messenger message from the BlackBerry device.

This functionality is by design.
