When installing Backup Exec on a virtual machine, the error "Unable to authenticate with the user and password information given for <domain\user>" appears after entering the user credentials for the services. (Figure 1)
Unable to authenticate with the user and password information giving for Domain\user.
On virtual machines, this error is not caused by incorrect credentials or restricted rights. The error is caused because the sysprep that was performed prior to deploying the machine created a System Identification Number (SID) that is identical to the domain controller that the machine joined.
Even if sysprep ran previously, check the SID. Use psgetsid.exe or any other utility to check the SID. Next, use newsid.exe or any other SID changing utility to generate a random SID. After rejoining the domain, run the installation wizard again.
Install is unable to authenticate user credentials on some machines.
