Attempting an upgrade to Backup Exec 2012 or above

Cause

The Shadow Copy Components file system has been modified to contain only user-defined data, such as Backup Exec Deduplication Disk Storage (PDDE) and Distributed File System Replication (DFSR). All other operating system-related data is now incorporated into System State. Solution

Remove the Shadow Copy Components from each job and attempt the job again. If the error persist, remove and recreate the backup job itself. In some rare cases the need to remove the remote client server and add it back to the Backup Exec server was needed.

  1. Edit the backup selections and delete the Shadow Copy Components selection from the Selection Details tab:
  2. On the Backup and Restore tab, select the required backup job.
  3. Click Edit Backups
  4. In the Selections box, click Edit
  5. On the Backup Selections dialog box, click the Selection Details tab.

  6. Delete the Shadow Copy Components selection.
  7. Click OK to save your changes.
  8.  Click OK on the Backup Properties dialog and run the job.
