GRT (Granular Recovery Technology) restore of mails in Exchange 2010 fails with error "EWS extended error: Invalid value"

GRT restore of delivery receipts in Exchange 2010 fails with following error in the job log:
0xe00002fd - Cannot restore properties of one or more messages or folders. Review the credentials for the resources in the job, and then run the job again.
Error in SGMON (or beremote debug) on CAS:
MsgItem::CloseItem() - EWS extended error: Invalid value 'Subject of the email'
Restore database to Recovery Database and extract contents.
