Cause

Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option replaces previous versions of the Backup Exec Desktop and Laptop Option and NetBackup Desktop and Laptop Option.

Solution

Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option (SDLO) replaces previous versions of the Backup Exec Desktop and Laptop Option (DLO) and NetBackup Desktop and Laptop Option.

There are several methods to migrate the Backup Exec DLO instance into the new Symantec DLO product.

A) Migrate Backup Exec DLO to Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option first before upgrading to Backup Exec 2012.

B) Uninstall the DLO option in the existing installation of Backup Exec.  Install Backup Exec 2012.  Migrate Backup Exec DLO information to Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option.  Uninstalling the DLO option from Backup Exec will retain the existing DLO information.

NOTE: For Backup Exec SBS (Small Business Server) editions the option to remove DLO is not available until the latest Backup Exec service pack and hotfixes are installed for Backup Exec 2010 R3. After the latest Backup Exec 2010 R3 patches are installed the DLO option can be uninstalled/removed from Backup Exec SBS editions.

(After migration DLO cannot be launched from the Backup Exec console.)

Steps to Uninstall the BE Desktop Laptop Option from a previous version of Backup Exec perform the following steps:

  1. From the Start Menu Select Control Panel
  2. Select Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features (whichever applies)
  3. Locate Symantec Backup Exec
  4. Right Click and Select Change
  5. Leave Additional Options Selected (this should be the default)
  6. Select Next
  7. On the Next Screen Select Next
  8. Drop Down Backup Exec Options
  9. Uncheck Desktop Laptop Option
  10. Select Next, Install and select Finish
  11. Reboot the Server

See Related Documents for more information about Symantec Desktop and Laptop Option and migration information.

Additionaly, after migrating BE DLO to SDLO first (as mentioned step A above), if the issue persist, try the following steps and then upgrade to BE 2012:

  1. Run the command msiexec /i {06B4D29D-D713-4EF3-B399-C4346FB84FF3}REMOVE=DLOService,DLOClient,DLOConsole /qn REBOOT=ReallySuppress /l*v "C:\ProgramData\Symantec\Backup Exec\Logs\DLORemoval.txt"
  2. Repair the Symantec DLO 7.0 installation from Add/Remove programs
  3. Copy “XPDLOShareu.dll” from path “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Binn” and placed in “C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.BKUPEXEC\MSSQL\Binn”
  4. Restart SQL services.
