Updating pcAnywhere to the latest SP

  1. If you do not have a pcAnywhere 12.5 CD, download a copy of the latest CD. If you have a pcAnywhere 12.5 CD, skip to the next step.

See "Downloading pcAnywhere 12.5 SP1 (build 442)"

  1. Install pcAnywhere.

See "Installing pcAnywhere 12.5 SP1 (build 442)"

  1. Complete one of the following tasks:

Install the service packs and hotfix using LiveUpdate or manual install the service packs and hotfix.

See "Installing the service packs and hotfix using LiveUpdate"

See "Manually installing the service packs and hotfix"

Downloading pcAnywhere 12.5 SP1 (build 442)

  1. Find your pcAnywhere serial number.

If you do not have your serial number, contact the Symantec Corporation at 1-800-721-3934. Your serial number is required to complete the download of pcAnywhere.

  1. Browse to https://fileconnect.symantec.com/
  2. Choose the language of your choice.
  3. Enter your serial number and click Enter.
  4. Accept the End User License Agreement.
  5. Click the link to download "Symantec pcAnywhere 12.5 - Corporate Edition, Host and Remote - Multilingual."
  6. Choose either "HTTP Download" or "Managed Download."
  7. Choose either the ISO image or the ZIP file.
  8. Click Begin Downloading.

Installing pcAnywhere 12.5 SP1 (build 442)

  1. If you downloaded an ISO image in the "Downloading pcAnywhere" section, burn the ISO image to a CD.

If you downloaded a ZIP file in the "Downloading pcAnywhere" section, skip to step 3.

If you have a pcAnywhere CD, continue to step 2.

  1. Insert the pcAnywhere CD in to the computer where you want pcAnywhere to be installed.
  2. If the CD does not automatically launch the pcAnywhere setup program, open Windows Explorer and view the contents of the CD drive.
  3. If you downloaded a ZIP in the "Downloading pcAnywhere" section, extract the contents to the computer where you want pcAnywhere to be installed.
  4. If an instance of pcAnywhere older than 12.5 already exists and you prefer to maintain the existing settings, see the How to keep existing pcAnywhere configurations when reinstalling or upgrading article.
  5. Double-click the file Setup.exe to begin the installation.
  6. Select the desired options and complete the installation wizard.

Installing the service packs and hotfix using LiveUpdate

If you do not currently have LiveUpdate installed and are running Windows 7 or higher, complete the "Download and installing LiveUpdate" section.

If you are running an earlier version of Windows, skip to the "Running LiveUpdate" section. pcAnywhere will have automatically installed LiveUpdate when it was installed.

If you already have LiveUpdate installed, skip to the "Running LiveUpdate" section.

Downloading and installing LiveUpdate

  1. Browse to http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/products/lu/lu/files.html
  2. Under the LiveUpdate 3.3 section, click LUSETUP.EXE and save it to your Desktop.
  3. Double click LUSETUP.EXE and click Run.
  4. Complete the installation wizard.

Running LiveUpdate

LiveUpdate only installs one update at a time, so you must run LiveUpdate more than once in order to get pcAnywhere to the latest service packs and security hotfix.

  1. Run LiveUpdate three times.

The first time LiveUpdate runs, pcAnywhere 12.5 SP2 (build 463) will be installed.

The second time LiveUpdate runs, pcAnywhere 12.5 SP3 (build 486) will be installed.

The third and final time LiveUpdate runs, pcAnywhere 12.5 hotfixes 1, 2, 3, and 4 (builds 500,514, 515, and 525) will be installed.

  1. Verify that pcAnywhere has been upgraded to the correct version. In pcAnywhere, navigate to Help > About Symantec pcAnywhere. This page should display the following information:

Version 12.5.1 Build 525

Note: It is not necessary to reboot immediately after you install the service packs or security hotfixes. However, a reboot is required before the full functionality of pcAnywhere is available.

Manually installing the service packs and hotfix
