This issue can occur if there is a problem communicating with the Global Catalog server.
Note: It has been observed that Outlook may not be impacted in this scenario and Outlook profile configuration for same mailbox may complete successfully.
Force Outlook to communicate with a specific Global Catalog (GC) server. To force Outlook to use a specific global catalog server, set the following special registry parameter to point to the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of the GC. Doing this over-rides any setting in the MAPI profile.
Warning: Incorrect use of the Windows registry editor may prevent the operating system from functioning properly. Great care should be taken when making changes to a Windows registry. Registry modifications should only be carried-out by persons experienced in the use of the registry editor application. It is recommended that a complete backup of the registry and workstation be made prior to making any registry changes.
1. Click Start, and then click Run, in the Open box, type regedit.exe, and then click OK.
2. Browse to the following key in the registry:
Note: You may have to create the registry path.
3. On the Edit menu, click Add Value, and then add the following registry value:
Data type: REG_SZ (string)
Value name: DS Server
Value data: FQDN of the global catalog server
Note: start with the nearest GC server and if the issue persists try other GC servers from the domain.
4. Try creating the archving job.
