Issue

Getting this ORA 12505 error when querying an Oracle target from CCS Oracle

Error

ORA 12505: Unable to establish connection with the database , scope is database xxx on server xxxxx . Additional information : ORA 12505: The TNS Listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor

Environment

Oracle 9i , 10g , 11g

CCS 8.5, 8.6, 9.0. 10.0 , 10.5

Cause

Incorrect SID used or Incorrect Service name used

Solution

  1. Get the listener.ora from the oracle server and verify if the SID mentioned for the listener is the same one you have used when configuring the target in CCS Oracle
  2. verify if the service name if used is the correct service name from the TNSNAMES.ora file

One of the reasons that you are getting this error is because you have used the incorrect name of either the SID or the service name while configuring the target oracle database in BV Control for Oracle.

When you have verified if the name used is incorrect, you will require to remove the target and re-register the target ( oracle database ) with BV Control for Oracle by running the configuration wizard.
