Problem
When NetBackup 5220 appliances are configured as FT (Fibre Transport) media servers, certain ports should be configured in target mode to received data from SAN clients.
Error
Status 83 if wrong ports are configured in target mode.
Environment
NetBackup appliances 5220 working as Fibre Transport media servers.
Cause
If wrong ports are configured in target mode, backups to Fibre Transport media servers will fail with status 83.
Solution
If there are two dual ports FC cards are attached to the 5220 appliance, then the following two ports should be configured in target mode, others should be in initiator mode:
- Left port from slot 2
- Right port from slot 4
The following CLISH command on the appliance shows which ports are configured in target mode and which are in initiator mode:
Manage>FibreChannel (displayed as Manage>FC)
Manage>FC>show
Please also note that it is required to create separate zones for each set of SAN client and target port on the appliance which is to be used with the SAN client.
