Issue

At times, the Mobile Management site server policies in the Symantec Management Platform console fail to properly install through the automated policies.  Manual installation is sometimes necessary.

Environment

Symantec Mobile Management 7.1 SP1 to 7.2 SP2.1

Solution

To manually install the Mobile Management Site Services, do the following:

  • If the Symantec Management Agent tried and failed to install the services, there will be a record of the Package cache in the Agent directory "C:\Program Files\Altiris\Altiris Agent\Agents\SoftwareManagement\Software Delivery\{7A16C954-71C7-4EEB-8F14-AE4F5094DC2C}\package.xml".
  • View this file to find the URL or UNC path to retrieve the Mobile Service.msi file.
  • (If this file is not available, the Mobile Service.msi file can be retrieved from the SMP server at "C:\Program Files\Altiris\MobileManagement\Packages\mobilesiteserver\Mobile Server.msi")
  • Open a Administrator Command Prompt on the MMS server, and run the following command from the folder the Mobile Service.msi file was downloaded to:
msiexec /i "Mobile Service.msi"
  • Once the installation completes, the MMS services will check in to the Symantec Management Platform server to retrieve their updated configuration content.

*Note* - Ensure that UAC is disabled when manually installing the .msi file or else package installation failure could occur.
