The value that is returned by the %SERIALNUMBER% token includes blank spaces

DS 7.1 build 656 up to and including build 2316


Cause



When the BIOS from certain computers returns the serial number to NS, the SERIALNUMBER contains blank values at the end. NS is not to blame for this issue as we simply receive the data given to us by inventory.


Solution



To fix this issue do the following:

1) Open Windows Explorer and go to c:\program files\altiris\deployment\config
2) Open 'Altiris.Deployment_Tokens.config
3) Search for 'SERIALNUMBER'
4) Modify the SQL statement "select [Hardware Serial Number] from [dbo.[Inv_Aex_AC_Identification] where [_ResourceGuid} = '%COMPUTERID%' to

select trim( [Hardware Serial Number]) from [dbo.[Inv_Aex_AC_Identification] where [_ResourceGuid} = '%COMPUTERID%'

5) Save the file.

6) Open a command prompt and change directories to "c:\program files\altiris\notification server\bin"
7) Type 'aexconfig /configure "c:\program files\altiris\deployment\config\Altiris.Deployment_Tokens.config"
8) The SerialNumber token will now remove spaces.

NOTE: Running aexconfig /Configure will return all policies to their default state upon initial installation.
