Problem

When activating the configuration on a Symantec Gateway Security appliance version 3.0.1 an error shows. The error text: "Target=Failed generating hosts or hosts.pub file:Contains non-LDH characters"

This error also occurs when importing a configuration saved from a previous version of the appliance.

Solution

This indicates one of the DNS entries contains an invalid character. LDH stands for letter/digit/hyphen, so any other type of character will cause an error. This includes underscore characters. Be aware that invalid character, such as a space at the end, can be in the record name OR the alias!
