Issue

The message: "Deduplication Option is no longer licensed in this upgrade" or "Storage Provisioning Option is no longer licensed in this upgrade" appears while upgrading to Backup Exec 2012 from version 2010 where the Deduplication Option or SPO was already installed and licensed. The upgrade procedure cannot be continued with all the license keys inserted.

Uninstalling the Deduplication Option or SPO in version 2010 prior to the upgrade does not solve the problem, and there is no serial number available to insert.

Error

"Deduplication Option is no longer licensed in this upgrade. You may not remove the license during the upgrade. To continue, either add a serial number for Deduplication Option, upgrade as trial, or remove the option in the previous version, then continue the upgrade."

Environment

Upgrading Backup Exec version 2010, 2010 R2, 2010 R3 to version 2012.

Solution

Complete the upgrade in "Trial Mode", that is, NOT CHECKING any of the listed serial numbers.

After completing the upgrade in trial mode, you will need to click on the upper-left yellow start icon  within the Backup Exec user interface, select Installation and Licensing and Install Options and Licenses on the Backup Exec Server and complete the procedure again but this time CHECKING all the installed serial numbers that apply to the particular installation:

After this, the program will operate in full licensed mode.
