Emails marked as 'dead mail' when SMSDOM processes take an extended period of time start.

Issue



The SMSDOM processes are taking an extended period of time to start, and ‘dead mail’ messages are building up in mail.box. Email is not being delivered during this time. Mail flow eventually returns to normal.

 


Environment



Disk space on the system drive is low. Condition seen where available disk space is 1GB.

SMSDOM temp scanning directory is on the system drive (normally C:)

Domino console reports 'logical disk (C) condition'.

'tell sav info' shows no output in Domino console.

 


Solution



Create a temp scanning directory on a drive with more available disk space.

Reconfigure SMSDOM to use the new folder by changing the ‘Directory for temp files’ under ‘Threat/Security > Basics’ in the SMSDOM settings database.
