Backup Exec remote agent fails to start on a Windows Server 2000 server after applying or updating to Hotfix 180429

Technical Solution



Issue



After applying Backup Exec 2010 R3 Hotfix 180429 on the Media Server and pushing or manually installing the Remote Agent to a Windows 2000 server, the Remote Agent remains in a starting state. (This only applies to Windows Server 2000).  Jobs may fail with and error "The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent".

 


Error



The Job Completion Status may show:

0xe000846b - The resource could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Backup Exec for Windows Servers Remote Agent.
Make sure that the correct version of the Remote Agent is installed and running on the target computer.  If the server or resource no longer exists, remove it from the selection list. Edit the selection list properties, click the View Selection Details tab, and then remove the resource.

Cause



Backup Exec remote agent service fails to start.

 

Application Log error:

The procedure entry point ?Int@EseProcess@@QAEJPA_WPADW4ExchangeVersion@1@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library bedscomm.dll

 

 


Solution



Run LiveUpdate or manually install Hotfix 176937 on the Backup Exec media server and re-push the Remote Agent to the Remote Windows 2000 Servers.
