SEP Email Proxy pop-up - Code 1003,8

Problem
When attempting to send emails with attachments (even a few KB) the email is not sent and a pop-up with code 1003,8 is displayed by the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) client.

was unable to be sent because the connection to your mail server was interrupted. Please open your email client and re-send the message from the Sent Messages folder

Environment
Microsoft Outlook 2007
Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x and 12.1
SEP client with e-mail tools installed.
Cause
Communication issues with the email server.
For example: It may happen if the mail hosting company makes changes to their authentication settings to not allow customers to send mail using their SMTP server when they are not the DSL provider as well.
Solution
Solution: Change e-mail settings (SMTP server).
Workaround: Remove the email tools or improve the connectivity to the email server.
