Technical Solution

Environment

Problem

Selecting the Reports tab in the Discovery Accelerator (DA) Client shows the status "Connecting to report server" and stays in that status until some additional action is taken.

Environment

- DA Client:
--- Windows XP, any version supported for DA 9.x
--- Discovery Accelerator 9.0 SP2 Client
- DA Server:
--- Windows Server 2008 R2
--- Discovery Accelerator 9.0 SP2
--- Enterprise Vault 9.0 SP2 binaries

Cause

The display of information in the DA Client uses the data currently in the DA Client cache first if no changes have been detected in the background processing. This cache refresh is not always occurring in a timely enough manner for some information update display actions.

Solution

Three possible workarounds exist for this issue.

Workaround 1 - Refresh the DA Client Cache:

Hold the Ctrl key while clicking on the Symantec icon in the lower right corner of the DA Client. This will force a refresh of the DA Client cache and display the correct status of the connection to the SQL Reporting Server.

Workaround 2 - Change tabs in the DA Client:

  1. Click on any tab in the DA Client and allow the new tab's contents to finish displaying.
  2. Click on the Reports tab to return and see the current status of the connection to the SQL Reporting Server.

Workaround 3 - Restart the DA Client:

  1. Close the DA Client.
  2. Launch the DA Client, selecting the same DA Customer if appropriate.
  3. Click on the Reports tab to see the current status of the connection to the SQL Reporting Server.
