Problem
In the Symantec Endpoint Protection manager (SEPM) console home page, in the "Symantec Security Response panel", the Security Response link does not open, it displays:
"This program cannot display the webpage".
All other panels appear correct. Liveupdate information and definitions are up-to-date.
Environment
Internet access goes throught proxy settings.
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.1000
Cause
In 12.1 SEPM, the process used to open the links from the Security Response panel (or any other web links) is "IeEmbed.exe"
Instead of Internet Explorer as in SEP 11.0.x
Solution
The IEembed process does not use proxy server settings (as this would cause problems for the Home/Monitor/Report tabs in SEPM in certain configurations) - therefore if the SEPM does not have non-proxy internet access, the 3 Security Response links may fail to load inside the ieembed popup.
A future release will make these links open in an iexplore.exe process instead.
Possible workaround for the moment are :
- Browse the Symantec web site from a separate Internet browser window
- Or open the SEPM Web Console which will use the IE settings and would give access to the Security Response web links.
