Modification Type: Supplement.

Modification:
In addition to the creation of the Exchange mailbox policy on the master server, modifications need to be made on the Exchange server for successful mailbox backups.

1. Create a user account in Active Directory (Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Active Directory Users and Computers) with an associated mailbox. The account must have Domain Administrator rights and a mailbox on the Exchange server (Figure 1).

2. The account created in step 1 must have Exchange Full Administrator rights. To delegate control for this account, open Exchange System Manager (Start | Programs | Microsoft Exchange | System Manager). Right-click the Exchange Organization, and select Delegate Control from the menu. Add the account created in step 1, select the role Exchange Full Administrator rights (Figure 2), and finish the Delegation Wizard.

3. Set the account created in step 1 as the account which starts the NetBackup Client Service. Go to Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | Services, find the NetBackup Client Service and select the Log On tab from the properties of the NetBackup Client Services to access this account (Figure 3). Change the account to use the account created in step 1.

Note: The service account must have the NetBios Domain name followed by the user account.

4. Send an email to the account created in step 1. This initializes the account in Active Directory, and is necessary to allow backups to use the account.
5. Log on to the Exchange server using the account created in step 1. Go to Start | Run, type Regedit in the Run textbox and press <Enter>.
6. From the Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Veritas\Netbackup\CurrentVersion\Config. Create a new string value EXCHANGE_MAILBOX (Figure 4). The data value for the new string will be the display name of the mailbox created in step 1.

7. Open the NetBackup Client. From the NetBackup client, click Select for Backup. Expand Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes. The NetBackup Client will enumerate the mailboxes on the client (this may take  2 -3 minutes if the client has more then a few hundred mailboxes (Figure 6).

8. On the master NetBackup server, create a new mailbox class. The directive should read as follows: Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes:\. This directive will back up all mailboxes for this client.
