Problem
After upgrading to pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4, or pcAnywhere Solution 12.6.7 and deploying the corresponding pcAnywhere Agent 12.6.8096, an error appears while attempting to use the pcA Quick Connect program to establish a remote control session to any computer which has a pcAnywhere host program running.
Error
Unable to attach to specified device
Environment
pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4
pcAnywhere Solution 12.6.7
Cause
pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4 and pcAnywhere Solution 12.6.7 are not backward compatible.
Also, the new pcA Quick Connect program requires that the pcAnywhere host is configured for AES256 encryption.
Solution
Ensure that both the remote and host program versions have been upgraded to either pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4 or pcAnywhere Agent 12.6.8096 (pcAnywhere Solution 12.6.7 on the Notification Server).
For environments with pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4, ensure that the host is configured for AES256 encryption. Or, use the "Symantec pcAnywhere" program (WinAw32.exe) rather than pcAQuickConnect.exe to launch the remote control session.
For environments with pcAnywhere Solution, ensure that within each pcAnywhere Settings - Windows policy, the Encryption level is set to the default value of "AES256". If the Encryption level is set to "AES128" or "None" in the policy, then the pcA Quick Connect cannot be used, and the remote program must be either:
- the Symantec Management Console
- the pcAnywhere 12.5 SP4 box product (WinAw32.exe)
