Problem

Backup Exec 2012 backup completes with the exception V-79-40960-37936 The SharePoint database is configured to maintain transaction logs. The SharePoint Agent does not support transaction log backups.

Error

V-79-40960-37936 - The SharePoint database DBNAME is configured to maintain transaction logs. The SharePoint Agent does not support transaction log backups. Configure the database to use the simple recovery model using SQL Server Management Studio. Once you change the recovery model, you must run a full backup of the database before you can successfully run an incremental or a differential backup

V-79-57344-38755 - The SharePoint database 'DBNAME' on virtual machine 'MACHINE' is configured to maintain transaction logs. The SharePoint Agent does not support transaction log backups. Configure the database to use the simple recovery model using SQL Server Management Studio.

Cause

The exceptions are to make the Administrator aware that the logs on the databases are not being truncated because Backup Exec does not have any means of managing the SharePoint logs in version 2012.

Solution

There are two options that can be pursued to handle this exception:
1. Reconfigure the databases to use the Simple recovery model as the error message indicates to eliminate the exception messages.

2. Ignore the exception and manage the SQL transaction logs outside of Backup Exec to keep the logs under control.

Note: This solution is only applicable for the versions of Backup Exec listed in this document using the Sharepoint Agent to perform the SQL database backups. SQL Agent backups, unlike Sharepoint Agent backups will perform SQL log backup/truncation.
