Symantec Email Submission Client (SESC) does not process email spam submission that are older than seven (7) days during the "Perform pending submissions along with update"

There are email spam submissions in the SESC spam submission folder.  The Administrator performs an SESC "perform pending submissions" activity.  Email submissions  older than seven (7) days and are not removed from the folder.  Email submissions newer than seven days are processed.

Use the following steps to have SESC process pending submissions:

1. Open the SESC console.
2. Open the System Update pane.
3. Check the appropriate Exchange servers in the Select servers tree.
4. Check the Perform pending submissions along with update checkbox.
5. Click the Update button.

Conditions

  • New messages added to the spam submission folder are processed sucessfully.

Environment



  • SESC 1.0

Cause



When processing email submissions from the Perform pending submissions along with update process email older than seven days is not processed.

Timely spam submissions can be effective to Symantec to create processing rules.  Older spam submissions are not as likely to be effective in creating processing rules.

Workaround

Use one of the following workarounds:

  • Manually delete any messages older than seven days from the spam submission folder.
  • Re-submit the messages by moving the messages from the spam submission folder then moving them back into the spam submission folder.
  • Configure SESC to process email older than seven days.

1. Open regedit and change the value of the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\SESC\1.0\Submissions\PreviousNumberOfDays to the number of days old that SESC will process an email.
2. Restart the SESC windows service.
3. Open the SESC console.
4. Open the System Update pane.
5. Check the appropriate Exchange servers in the Select servers tree.
6. Check the Perform force subscription checkbox.
7. Check the Perform pending submissions along with update checkbox.
8. Click the Update button.
