The BPIMMEDIA command, which is displaying the images on the media report with the -L or -U display switches, truncates backup IDs when the client's host name exceeds 9 characters.

Solution

Due to the tabular output format of the BPIMMEDIA command using the -U or -L display switches, the backup ID is truncated to a total of 20 characters.

A backup ID consists of two parts: the client's hostname and the timestamp, separated by an underscore character. Because the timestamp is 10 characters long, any systems that have hostnames exceeding 9 characters will have their backup IDs truncated using this command with the specified display switches.

Workaround:
Each of the following options correctly reports the backup ID:

1. Use the Images on Media report contained in the Reports Graphical User Interface (GUI) to view the backup IDs.

NOTE: For UNIX platforms both the X/Motif GUI and the jnbSA GUI will still display truncated backup ids. Therefore, use workaround 2

2. Use the BPIMMEDIA command, but use the -l display switch, rather than the -L or -U. This switch generates a report of the images on the media, but does not put the information into tabular format and does not truncate the backup ID (as illustrated below).

NOTE: For UNIX platforms, lower case should be used for the bpimmedia command. However, case sensitivity of the switches still stands.

BPIMMEDIA -U (backup id truncated - end 0 is missing)
