Getting error code 811 while taking backups


Error



Backups are failing with status code 811: failed to communicate with resource requester


Environment



Media Server:-
media1
Windows 2008 R2 64 bit
NBU 7.1

Master Server:-
master1

Windows 2008 R2 64 bit
NBU 7.1.0.3


Cause



Has upgraded the media server to a 64 bit Windows 2008 R2 Server
Installed Nbu 6.0 MP7 and then NBU 7.1 and then 7.1.0.3
When it was NBU 6.0 MP7 it was working fine however after 7.1 it gives error
Uninstalled 7.1.0.3 still the same issue
 


Solution



  • The media server services have been restarted
  • The bpclntcmd -pn and -hn works from media server and master
  • The nbemmcmd -listhosts gives the mediaserver name in the output
  • The telnet is working from both end for shortname and fqdn

  • Checked the install log (%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Symantec\NetBackup\InstallLogs\) - no errors

  • Deleted host_cache , disabled IPV6, made sure binding order for NIC card is correct
  • Added the media server entry in the registry of master server
  • Uninstalled nbu 7.1 and then installed nbu 7.1 - this time without nbu 6.0 MP7
  • Now the GUI opened successfully on media server
  • Backups are working fine
