pcAnywhere plugin install failing with "Program 'pcAnywhere Plug-in Install for Windows' completed. Exit code=1002"

Problem
After upgrading to pcAnywhere 12.6.7, some agents were getting the errors known in document http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH187737. Before the fix for that was released, the suggested workaround was to uninstall and reinstall the pcAnywhere host. In some cases, the reinstalled caused error 1002.

SMP agent.logs have informational messages with the following Description: Program 'pcAnywhere Plug-in Install for Windows' completed. Exit code=1002
Cause
Damaged install/upgrade files
Solution
Apply the current fix file from http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH187737. Uninstall and reinstall the pcAnywhere agent on any hosts displaying the 1002 error
